Women entrepreneurs in the beauty industry are driving one of India’s fastest-growing sectors. The country’s beauty and personal-care market hasn’t just grown — it’s exploded, and these founders have been front and center the entire way, building the brands, platforms and playbook that the rest of the industry now follows.
Here are six women reshaping what a beauty business in India can be.
Meet the Founders
Falguni Nayar
Nykaa
Falguni Nayar founded Nykaa in 2012 after a career in investment banking — proof that a beauty empire doesn’t require a beauty-industry résumé. Nykaa grew from a digital-first beauty platform into a full-blown lifestyle company, with its own cosmetics and beauty lines sitting alongside thousands of other brands on its shelves.
Vineeta Singh
SUGAR Cosmetics
Vineeta Singh, co-founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics, built a colour-cosmetics brand designed specifically around Indian skin tones and Indian consumers — then took it everywhere, from e-commerce to crowded retail shelves nationwide.
Ghazal Alagh
Mamaearth / Honasa Consumer
Ghazal Alagh co-founded Mamaearth with Varun Alagh in 2016, starting in personal care and expanding into a much wider beauty and personal-care portfolio under parent company Honasa Consumer — which went on to become a publicly listed company.
Vandana Luthra
VLCC
Vandana Luthra founded VLCC back in 1989, long before “beauty tech” was a category. Her business expanded across beauty, wellness and personal-care products, making her one of the most established names in Indian beauty entrepreneurship.
Malika Sadani
The Moms Co.
Malika Sadani co-founded The Moms Co., a personal-care brand built specifically for mothers, babies and families — a niche most beauty companies overlooked. The brand later joined The Good Glamm Group.
Radhika Ghai
Kindlife
Radhika Ghai, who previously co-founded ShopClues, is now behind Kindlife — a beauty and wellness platform built around conscious, considered consumption rather than just another shopping cart.
